Huron-Perth Lakers#1 heading into Marlboros Holiday Tournament

The Huron-Perth Lakers look to continue their hot start to the season heading into the 30th Annual Toronto Marlboros Holiday Tournament. Through the first 18 games of the season the Lakers hold a regular season record of 15-1-2. Last month the Lakers also captured the U16 Silver Stick Championship.

The Lakers are coached by former NHL player Krys Barch. Barch also brings experience as an NHL skills and development coach with the Buffalo Sabres. Huron-Perth’s biggest asset is that they are incredibly deep at every position. Both goaltenders Vaughan Barr (7 GP / 1.17 GAA) and Ian Kubelka (11 GP / 0.83 GAA) are having incredible seasons so far. Defensively the Lakers are led by Matthew Henderson, Jesse Debruyn, Dante D’Andrea and Cullen Kerslake. I do expect all four of the Lakers top defenders to be selected in the 2025 OHL draft. Matthew Henderson leads the way with a high chance to be selected inside the first 3 rounds.

Offensively the Lakers are lead by coach Barch’s son Kane Barch who leads the Alliance league with 43 points through 18 games played so far. Kane has a combination of skill, smarts and toughness that should translate to a successful OHL career. The Lakers other top offensive weapon is their captain Jake Murray who scored the game winner in OT to win the Silver Stick Championship. Jake is power forward type player. He is at his best on the forecheck and when he is driving to the net.

Currently the Huron-Perth Lakers are holding onto the #1 spot in the OHL Cup rankings. Multiple GTHL teams including the Toronto Jr Canadians, Don Mills Flyers, Toronto Titans and Toronto Marlboros will be looking to knock off the Lakers from the #1 spot. The Toronto Marlboros Holiday tournament is the perfect opportunity to do just that. The tournament runs December 27th-30th. Breakawayprospects.com will have multiple scouts in the arena. Once the tournament is completed we will have new player reports, highlight videos and updated player rankings.
