Game / Tournament Reports
VS London Knights / OHL Championship
Simon Wang is a very raw prospect with intriguing upside. He has been playing bottom pair minutes for Oshawa since joining the team. He possesses a large frame and impressive reach, which, combined with his strong skating, gives him a solid foundation as a physically imposing presence on the ice. He plays an aggressive style of game, often engaging in board battles and using his size to his advantage. Offensively, he shows flashes of upside. He can use his mobility to carry the puck out of the zone effectively. At times he’s been able to make solid plays transitioning out of his own zone. His offensive game still remains a work in progress. He will need to continue to work on distributing the puck and making plays under pressure. With time and the right coaching to refine his decision-making and puck skills, the payoff could be big.
VS Brampton Steelheads / February 15th 2025
Wang has struggled offensively since his jump from the OJHL to the OHL level. You can tell he has just recently adjusted and found some chemistry with his teammates. His size and reach stands out right away. Moved well for his size, showing solid edge work and fluid strides. Used his skating well to push the puck up the ice when under pressure. Will need to further develop his offensive game. Flashed shutdown potential but can still improve defensive positioning. Battled hard and used his stick well defensively. A high risk, high reward prospect who could thrive with the right development path. It will be interesting to see if stays with Oshawa or stays committed to the NCAA route. Development over the next couple of years will be huge.
